Moriones Festival is a religious festival held annually in Marinduque during the Holy Week. The Moriones are male and female participants who dress like Roman soldiers in commemoration of Saint Longinus, the Roman soldier who stabbed Jesus on his side. “Morion” , literally means mask which was a part of the Roman soldiers’ armor.

This coming Feb. 25, 2012 marks the 26th anniversary of the People Power Revolution. Then-president Ferdinand Marcos sent tanks to wipe out rebel officers Juan Ponce Enrile and Fidel V. Ramos who had barricaded themselves in the Defense Ministry Headquarters in Camp Crame. Priests and nuns knelt and prayed in front of the tanks while young girls handed out flowers to the soldiers. In the end, the Filipino people won back their freedom from dictatorship through a peaceful & bloodless revolution.
